Kara Goucher received star treatment at the inaugural Chicago Rock and Roll Half Marathon and did not disappoint, winning the event overall in 1 hour, 8 minutes, 5 seconds. It's the fastest time ever by a woman on U.S. soil.
It's not every day that a female wins a race with 17,000 participants -- half of them male.
But this event rolled out the red carpet for Goucher, had pacers for her, had a camera trained on her the entire time, and it was somewhat expected she would win this citizens race as the only elite entered. It was primarily a workout for Goucher, who is preparing to run the IAAF World Championships marathon in Berlin later this month.
